Seiko Seikomatic Ref. 15015D
This dial does not bear the "SEIKO" inscription. Far from being a shortcoming, this is one of the most distinctive details indicating that the Ref. 15015D belongs to the early Seikomatic era.

The Seikomatic was one of the first major families through which Seiko elevated automatic watchmaking to a more refined level in the early 1960s. During this transformative period—which saw the emergence of Grand Seiko in 1960 and King Seiko shortly thereafter—the primary brand name was downplayed on early Seikomatic models, with "Seikomatic" placed on the dial almost as a standalone identity.
The serial number 1571013 found on the inside of the case back allows us to date its production to May 1961. The full reference number 15015D, along with the inscriptions "FRONT EGP 20 MICRONS" and "BACK STAINLESS STEEL," are also clearly legible on the same surface. Thus, the watch's own markings confirm that the front of the case is 20-micron gold-plated, while the case back is made of stainless steel.
With a diameter of approximately 36 mm, the case embodies the balanced proportions of an early 1960s dress watch, featuring a slim bezel and elongated lugs. While the silver-colored dial—adorned with extremely fine radial lines radiating from the center—shifts constantly in the light, applied gold-tone baton indices and sharp dauphine hands stand out distinctly against the surface. The "DIASHOCK 17 JEWELS" inscription at the bottom clearly displays the watch's mechanical identity on the dial. Powering the watch is the Seikosha Calibre 603—an early automatic Seiko movement featuring 17 jewels, Diashock shock protection, and an operating frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour. Because automatic winding reduced the need to use the crown during daily wear, the designers were able to recess the crown—positioned at 4 o'clock—as deeply as possible into the case. Thus, a technical solution became an integral part of the watch's aesthetic.
The original Seiko-stamped leather strap, additional strap links, and period-correct Seiko packaging complete the physical history of this timepiece, which dates back approximately 65 years.

The Seikomatic 15015D is not merely an early automatic Seiko; it is a product of the era when Seiko began forging a new identity—one strong enough to eventually allow the brand to omit even its own name from the dial. It may not bear the "SEIKO" inscription, yet Seiko’s future is clearly evident on this dial.
