This watch, belonging to a world far older than what comes to mind when you think of vintage Seiko today, is a highly distinctive example of the brand's classic wristwatch concept that began to take shape in the post-war period.
The dial is undoubtedly the first thing that catches the eye. The geometric texture, resembling a finely woven fabric, that runs along the central section constantly reveals a different face depending on the angle of the light. The outer section is deliberately kept simple; gold-toned teardrop indices, the number 12, and the thin gold-toned hands create a strong period contrast. The small seconds hand at 6 o'clock is one of the most classic details that completes the design.
The “S” emblem at 12 o'clock, along with the framed SEIKO signature below it, gives the watch a distinct early Seiko identity that we no longer encounter today. It's not like a modern logo has been placed on an old watch; every detail, from its typography to its indices, speaks the design language of its time.
The 30.5 mm diameter stainless steel case, while seemingly small by today's standards, sits comfortably on the wrist thanks to its long, slender lugs. Combined with the brown leather strap, the watch's slightly military character, yet maintaining its dress-watch aesthetic, is further emphasized.
The case back retains Seiko's old emblem, the inscription "STAINLESS STEEL," and the number 1735. Inside is a hand-wound Seiko movement. This movement has been fully serviced by us and is functioning perfectly.
The dial is generally quite impressive for its age. There is a very small pinpoint age mark visible in close-up, high-resolution photos; it is difficult to notice with the naked eye at normal wear distance. Especially on such a textured and light-colored old dial, we prefer to point this out as a small mark remaining from the watch's years rather than trying to hide it.
