Oris Chronoris Chronograph Ref. 7564 – A 2005 Reinterpretation of the 1970 Spirit
The Chronoris is no ordinary model name in Oris's history. First appearing in 1970, the original Chronoris was the brand's first chronograph and marked one of its first serious forays into the world of motorsports. With its orange accents, distinctive case geometry, and a dial reminiscent of racing gauges, it became one of the most characteristic Oris designs of its era.
**IMPORTANT NOTE: As this item ships from within the European Union, you will not be liable for customs duties within the EU.**
When Oris revisited this design in 2005, rather than simply replicating the vintage model, the brand reinterpreted its character through a modern mechanical chronograph architecture. The Ref. 7564 featured here is a remarkable example of this first generation of modern Chronoris watches.
The brushed, cushion-shaped steel case, black dial, and orange scale spanning three-quarters of the circumference reveal the watch's 1970s origins at a glance. The orange central chronograph seconds hand, the 30-minute chronograph counter at the 12 o'clock position, and the outer tachymeter scale demonstrate that the design is rooted not merely in nostalgia, but in the authentic logic of motorsport chronographs. Oris introduced the Ref. 7564 family as part of this modern Chronoris chronograph series.
The large, round date window at the 6 o'clock position creates a strong visual focal point amidst the dial's intricate layout. Orange edges on the black leather rally-style strap echo the color scheme found on the dial.
The automatic movement, visible through the sapphire case back, is finished with Oris’s signature red rotor. Details regarding the 50-meter water resistance and reference number remain intact on the case back.
However, what makes this particular example truly special to us is the exceptional completeness of its set. The watch comes with the large Oris outer box and a special zippered presentation/travel case. Inside the case, you will find the original paperwork, international warranty and instruction manuals, the Oris tool for strap changes, and the blue metal bracelet—which still retains its protective films.
One of the finest details on the warranty card is the date that directly documents the watch's history: July 23, 2006. Along with the stamp from the authorized Japanese retailer, this date provides concrete evidence of the market where the watch was originally sold nearly twenty years ago.
Final Thoughts
The appeal of this Chronoris lies in more than just its 1970s-inspired aesthetic.
It stands out as one of the early re-edition generations—launched in 2005—that revisited the design language of Oris’s first 1970 chronograph using modern automatic chronograph architecture. Furthermore, the fact that it was sold in Japan in 2006 and has survived to the present day complete with its box, paperwork, tool, and spare bracelet makes this particular example all the more compelling.
