Omega De Ville Quartz Ref. 591.057 - 1979
In a dress watch, slimness is often merely an aesthetic choice; in this Omega, however, it is a direct result of engineering. Produced in 1979, the Omega De Ville Quartz Ref. 591.057 marries electronic precision with the elegant, restrained design of the De Ville collection dating back to an era when quartz technology symbolized a new age.

At the heart of the watch lies the Calibre 1350, a movement Omega developed specifically for small, slim timepieces. Measuring just 15.15 x 13 mm with a height of 3.35 mm, this two-jewel quartz movement operates at a frequency of 32,768 Hz. Instead of a traditional crown, it employs a single electronic adjustment button recessed into the case a highly modern solution for its time. The minute hand advances with short presses, while the hour hand moves forward when the button is held down continuously.
The Calibre 1350 displays only the hours and minutes; there is no second hand. Even more unusual is the fact that the minute hand advances by a single step only once every 60 seconds. This system, which sends an impulse to the movement's motor once a minute, reduces energy consumption while preserving the dial's serene, dress-watch character without interruption.
The round case, measuring approximately 23 mm in diameter, features a 20-micron gold plating on the front section and bezel, paired with a stainless steel case back. The sunburst-textured champagne dial offers a perfectly balanced aesthetic, featuring slender baton indices, elegant black hands, and the signature “De Ville Quartz” lettering. This 23mm dimension aligns with other Cal. 1350 De Ville examples from the same era.
The Omega-signed, gold-tone fine mesh bracelet integrates with the case to create a look akin to fine jewelry. The Omega logo on the clasp and the brand hallmark on the inner side complete this aesthetic. The watch also comes with the period-correct red Omega presentation box and the multilingual International Guarantee booklet shown in the photos.
This example is also in excellent condition. The champagne dial is pristine, the indices and hands are crisp, the gold plating retains much of its vibrancy, and the fine mesh bracelet remains in good shape despite its age. The light surface marks on the case back are consistent with the natural signs of wear expected on a watch that is nearly half a century old.
Final Thoughts
The way its hand waits silently for a minute before advancing in a single step perhaps best captures the character of this De Ville.
The Omega Ref. 591.057 is a small yet highly distinctive timepiece a witness to history that conceals the technical boldness of the quartz era within the restrained elegance of the 1970s.
