Citizen “Dress Watch” Ref. - Cal. 1802 (Manual Wind, 21 Jewels)
The second half of the 1960s was a period when the Japanese watch industry responded to the Swiss aesthetic. In the flat-faced dress-watch models it produced during these years, Citizen aimed not only for technical reliability but also for the elegance of simple lines. This example you are holding boasts one of the most refined cases the brand developed at the time, housed in its Caliber 1802 movement: a slim, all-steel case, curved lug transitions, and minimalist typography on the silver-tone dial.
The dial design perfectly reflects the “modern Japanese Bauhaus” ethos of the 1960s: long faceted indices, a pencil-shaped hand set, and the simple inscription “Citizen 21 Jewels – Shockproof.” The date window, positioned at the bottom right, is the only deliberate break from this symmetry. The brushing and polishing transitions on all surfaces are so balanced that, when light hits the case, the simplicity, not the geometry, stands out.
The back cover is the "simple dome" style used by Citizen during the production period of this series; it is closed without any inscription on the outside, while the inside features factory references. This is a transitional standard implemented by the brand in the mid-1960s.

Review
This Citizen is one of the purest examples of Japanese minimalism from the 1960s. The Cal. 1802 movement was produced for only a few years, after which the 1800 series was discontinued; therefore, this model falls into the short-run production category of high craftsmanship. The design language closely resembles the aesthetic balance of the Seiko Crown Special and the early Grand Seiko era—simple, balanced, and characterful.
